Follow Your Fitter Friend!
You might think that exercising with someone who is more competent than you would be demoralising but a new study suggests the opposite could be true. Researchers from the University of Michigan, USA found that those who trained with a partner whose performance was moderately better than their own, not only performed better, but were more highly motivated to stick to the exercise program long term.
So if you’re looking for the impetus to start training more, why not call up that fitter friend? Or ask that girl in the gym or your Zumba class if they fancy going for a run or bike ride sometime? Can’t think of anyone? Don’t worry. Interestingly, the same study actually used a virtual exercise partner not a real one. So try digging the Wii Fit out from the back of the cupboard or join an online fitness support group and find that extra motivation in the cyber world!
