Pro-align specialises in clinical Pilates-based ‘functional’ mat work classes.
Mat classes are traditionally based around floor work; exercises being performed on the back, side, front and on all fours. Our classes also include work in sitting and standing to incorporate a more functional element. The use of small props (resistance ring, small ball, resistance band, foam roller) are integrated into each session to progress the exercises and provide more of a challenge.
At Pro-align we utilise the fundamentals of traditional Pilates and combine it with modern research and elements from more functional based training methods. Arising from our Physiotherapy background the classes have a strong emphasis on correct ‘pre-movement’ activation and the integration into movements that transfer well into activities of daily life. Our leading-edge is ongoing education and ensuring you understand why you are doing the exercises and have a good concept of body awareness and your limits.
Mat classes are suitable for people of any age and fitness level and our classes are graded to help to reflect this.

How do I get started?
Our staff have experience in treating a multitude of medical conditions from arthritis, joint replacements, back pain, incontinence to strokes, heart and respiratory disease. We are able to not only understand but help you manage your condition safely. We understand how daunting exercise can seem when you are in pain or have been affected by pain.
In order to get the best results we believe you need to understand why you are doing your ‘rehab exercises’ , and how they lead to a strong body and smooth function.
We will teach you about the body, how the muscles work, why we need symmetry and correct timing to produce optimal pain free movement. This knowledge provides the basis of recovery and self confidence.
Physiotherapists are trained to work like a ‘body detective’, to find the source of the problem and correct it with massage, manipulation of the joint, exercises and mobilization stretches. The classes and private sessions provided by Pro-align compliment ‘hands on ‘ treatment perfectly. We all need an occasional ‘correction’ or manual ‘release’ , but then need to re-train the body to move again in an optimal manner.
**remember pain is not normal. If you experience symptoms for over 3 days that do not dissipate, get treatment so that you can continue to exercise again.
