Mobiliser Series – Hip & Spine:
This is another great mobiliser series, focused on improving multidirectional mobility in your hip and spine region. Differing from the traditional static stretch, this mobiliser series relies on controlled fluid movement and a more dynamic stretch.
Traditional static stretches work on joint range of motion and muscle length. These stretches still have their place, but physiotherapists and trainers are increasingly favoring a more dynamic approach to increasing mobility mainly because it is more effective and efficient. This mobiliser series achieve the same benefits of your static stretches, but also requires activation of your muscles to support you as you move with fluidity and stability throughout the series and targets your fascia.
Those of you with yoga knowledge will notice the yoga influence in this series, with controlled movement through out your hip and spine range of motion to mark poses such as downward dog, pigeon pose and child pose. Note these poses are not held for prolonged periods, just a breath or two. This is much more in tune with your natural daily movement patterns. Rarely in a day do you completely freeze and hold a pose motionless for 30seconds!
This mobiliser series also requires core activation to maintain stability as your body moves through out your active range of motion from pose to pose.
Lastly the mobiiliser series also treats your fascial systems. Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and connects your muslces, bones and organs, allowing the structures to glide smoothly over each other. With prolonged postures, such as sitting at the computer all day fascia can develop scar tissue that consequently limits movement. Mobiliser exercises like the one in this video stimulate fascia, inhibiting the laying down of scar tissue.
Note this is not like the ballistic stretching of old, where while wearing Dunlop volleys and King Gees, you bounce into a stretch at the end of your range, which has a high risk of muscle injury. These movement series are controlled through your active range of motion, not just erractic bouncing into the end of range and beyond.
Give this hip and spine mobiliser series a go. It is a more effective and efficient way more to maintain mobility.
