What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle yet powerful treatment approach that uses light touch to the body to assist in healing with both physical and emotional imbalances.

It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger, furthering the work and research of Dr. William Sutherland, the father of cranial osteopathy.

The focus of assessment involves the cranium and sacrum and the central nervous system housed within.

The human body is completely interrelated and interwoven within the biological fabric of the fascial web. Everything connects to everything else, all interlinked by this connective tissue. This fascial web contains our bones, surrounds our muscles, nerves and organs.  If any part of this web is twisted, adhered or pulled, we see an unbalanced system that can have an effect on not only how we move, but also how we feel.

If this tissue becomes tight, stuck together and less elastic it can affect how our joints move, the amount of blood flow that our organs receive and how well our nerves can glide as we move.

An area of restriction over a surgery site in the left hip for example may have an effect in the opposite shoulder.

Our body and health is so much more than just bones and muscles. This style of treatment can affect both the physical and emotional side of our being.

Your body has its own innate wisdom and ability to heal. Cranio sacral therapy taps into this with outstanding results.

Cranio can be your only treatment or can be part of your treatment approach depending on what is required.

My training for this approach is through the Upledger Institute, further information can be found in the link below
