Each term we will be asking you to do a personal goal setting task.
This exercise is designed to help you focus on a particular movement task for the 10 weeks that would be meaningful for you, and then evaluate your progress over the term.
It is also designed to provide some supplementary evidence and documentation to help when claiming with your health fund provider.
Before class one of the next term term I would like you to think of:
-
A meaningful task
-
What is currently happening here? ( pain, stiffness, loss balance)
-
One thing that will help you towards achieving this task ( more mobility? More strength? Better posture? Relaxation?)
-
Make this your SMART goal for the term
-
Scoring will be ‘patient specific functional scale ‘ (Stratford P)
0=not well/not good 10=full function
A SMART goal is…….
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic & Timed
We also want your goal to be meaningful for you so you can focus on your exercise of choice and gain improvements outside of the class setting. You will re evaluate at the end of the programme and apply another score.
An example will be given below:
Example 1
-
Meaningful task = sitting for prolonged periods
-
I get back pain after 60 minutes
-
Learning stretches to do in the chair throughout the day
-
SMART goal : learn 2 mobility exs for my spine & do them at my desk
-
At class one : 4/10 score ( I only know 2 stretches for the chair currently and don’t do them)
Example 2
-
Meaningful task = climbing stairs.
-
I get knee pain climbing up after 6 steps.
-
Get stronger hip muscles and focus on this with my home exercises.
-
Learn 3 hip strengthening exercises from class to practice at home / maybe follow a video on the site.
-
At class one : 2/10 score (quite painful)
